Cornwall Liberal Democrats have called for clarity after the Prime Ministers ‘roadmap’ broadcast that was trailed as a roadmap out of the Coronavirus lockdown left the public more confused than before.
Thousands of people took to social media to vent fury or express confusion about the Prime Minister’s statement, with Cornwall’s’ Tory MPs directly in the firing line.
Rob Nolan, Lib Dem portfolio holder for Environment and Public Protection said:
“Like a lot of other people, I was a bit confused by what the Prime Minister said on Sunday night. He appeared to ask people to go back to work, but how can they do that if they have children who can’t go to school, are not allowed to use public transport, and if place of employment remains closed? The government seem to be pushing all of the risk and responsibility for keeping people safe onto employers and the public. They really need to do more to provide clarity.”
Colin Martin, Lib Dem parliamentary spokesperson for South East Cornwall said:
“The Government’s handling of the coronavirus has been absolutely appalling. They were too slow to put lockdown in place, too slow to provide PPE to our health and care workers and totally abandoned contact-tracing on March 12th. With no tracking app, insufficient testing capacity and still no contact-tracing staff, it is no wonder we now have the highest death rate in Europe.”
